“Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. (Matthew 6:1 NIV)
We serve to please God alone. To serve God we should be in the right place at the right time, doing the right thing in the right way. The Bible says, holiness should be done in the House of God. The Most High is the Head of His House, the Most Holy Church. It is where our service must be done. Serving God is a lifetime duty. Seek to stay in His House all the days of our lives to serve and to see His glory. God sees the heart and the mind. He knows the very intentions of our hearts. We serve Him by doing His commands. We surrender ourselves to His will. We obey God because we love Him. Our aim is to please God and glorify Him by our obedience. We do righteousness to praise God and not to praise ourselves. The Church is not a fast-food store where we get everything instantly; we rush in and rush out. It is where we self-serve to satisfy our stomach or our flesh. We choose what we want and pay for it. The receipt says we are fully paid and have received what we paid for. It would be the same if we serve to please ourselves. It is like buying the praises for our deeds. We already received the reward. Our focus in serving is God alone. Our motive is to please Him. If others see our good deeds and our motives, they will also do the same and praise God as well. This way God will reward us and be pleased in us.
