For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. (1 Peter 3:17 NKJV)
I do not know the man!” Three times did Peter deny Jesus. Afterwards, the rooster’s crow was heard. He wept in bitterness as he remembered Jesus words that he will do so even if he vehemently denied it. Peter loved Jesus so much. He proved it when he resisted and defended Jesus when he was about to be arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane. He knew that Jesus has not done anything to warrant His arrest. Peter denied Jesus to avoid his own arrest and persecution. He denied Jesus just so he can save himself. He knew he sinned against the Lord. He now teaches us to not be afraid to suffer and die for Christ. He encourages us to do the right things in obedience to Christ. If we are persecuted because of doing what is good, then we suffer for Christ and have nothing to be ashamed of. However, if we did wrong or committed crimes, and are persecuted because of our sins, then it is only just that we suffer.
