But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:

“God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6 NKJV)

Everyone who stands proud before God will never be worthy. Like the Pharisee who said, in his prayer, that unlike others, he was doing most of the commandments. He said so not to thank nor glorify God, rather, to exalt himself. He “lifted his own chair” and did not raise the throne of God. God knows what is in every man’s heart. God will listen and consider anyone as worthy if they kneel before Him with a humble heart – like the tax collector. When he knelt down, his heart was full of humbleness and repentance. He bowed his head to show his meekness before the great God. He kept on beating his chest in asking God for forgiveness. Although he was a sinner, he was justified, made upright, and forgiven. The only way for those who humble themselves is nowhere but up. Always be humble before God and even before our fellowmen. There is nothing to lose. Instead, we will gain more if we live in humility. Be like wheat. As it grows, it bows down. As we succeed in life, we should be humbler before God and men. Always thanking Him. Always praising Him for all the blessings He is giving us, so we may live a peaceful and productive life in Him, all the days of our lives.
