Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. (2 Timothy 2:10 NKJV)
We all want to have a convenient and easy life. It is easy for us to lie down in bed and rest, not worrying about anything except ourselves. However, it is entirely different if you have advocacies in life. An office worker may work eight hours a day and go home to rest, but not if you are a surgeon who has to be on call 24/7, waking in the middle of the night to save a life; a fireman who has to risk his life during a firefight to rescue people and properties; or, a lifeguard or a soldier who are always at risk in serving others. We, as Christians, are called by the Lord to serve others. We are not only called to be saved but to serve God and others around us, specially our fellow believers. We can choose to just sit, lie down, and rest or we can go out and serve the Lord during Congregational worship services, visit the sick and the brother or sister in Christ who are in need. The kindness shown to another is done for the Lord. God will not forget our charitable work for the sake of our brethren – more so if you are a shepherd, a steward of God’s flock. What then should your priority be – your secular work or your work in Christ? Some are so engrossed in seeking material non-spiritual things and neglect the more important ones, those that concern our souls and the souls of the flock of God entrusted in our care. We tied our souls, as Shepherds of Church, to lead the flock of God to the green pasture of love, grace and mercy. How we should lead them to perfection is through Agape.
