The reward of humility and the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life. (Proverbs 22:4 AMP)
Jesus is asking us to come to Him and follow Him. He set an example on how to be a true servant of God. He told us to imitate Him. He said and did only what the Father says. If we are to genuinely follow Christ, like Him, we have to deny ourselves; we have to discipline our body and mind to avoid evil thoughts and deeds. But we cannot do that only by ourselves. Without Christ, we cannot do anything. We have to submit ourselves to Christ and to His will. Enthrone Him in our hearts. Let Him live in our bodies and have His spirit over our minds. Let our whole life be filled with good works and righteousness. Like Christ, let us do the will of the Lord, who chose and sent us as if it is our daily food. If we live by His words, we prove our trust in Him and we glorify Him. Our bodies become living sacrifices, a sweet smelling aroma in God’s heavenly sanctuary. We can hear God’s acknowledgement saying: Come my faithful servant, you have been faithful in little things, I will reward and honor you with greater riches in heaven and on earth. What could possibly be greater than this, that the Creator of the universe accepted our service? That already is our best reward!
