Keep company with the wise and you will become wise. If you make friends with stupid people, you will be ruined. (Proverbs 13:20 GNB)
Peter denied knowing Jesus three times. The first time he was asked about Jesus, he angrily denied Him. He swore not knowing the Lord the second time and after denying Jesus for the third time, he backed it up by cursing. Those who heard him said, “Your speech betrays you.” He went away and wept bitterly in repentance. Peter was supposed to stay with Jesus through thick and thin. Before Jesus was arrested, Peter swore not to leave Jesus whatever happens. Unfortunately, he left Jesus. He was weak and his faith was tested. The point is if you are a true friend, you will not desert your friend no matter what. True friendship is based on love for each other. It endures the test of time and trials. Your conversation and your lifestyle are somehow molded in time by the company you had. Jesus influenced Peter in the way he talks and acts. To show he was not with Jesus, he cursed and swore falsely. Good conduct comes from good company and bad conduct from bad company. So choose who you will go with. Go with the wise and you will be safe. Go with the stupid and you will go astray. The wise are those who have learned divine wisdom. Fools are the unbelievers whose worldly knowledge amounts to nothing. Fellowship with the saints and you will be holy. Befriend the worldly and you will be a sinner. What do you want to be, a sinner or a saint?
