Caring for the poor is lending to the LORD, and you will be well repaid. (Proverbs 19:17 CEV)

Christ said the poor shall never cease in the land. There will always be people who are poor. They are those who have less in life. They need help. Those who have more in life have obligations to help the poor. Jesus has compassion to the poor. He loves them. We are instructed to provide for the needy, specially those who are members of God’s family. To care for the poor is not only to have compassion and sympathy. We need to act to alleviate their depressed situation. If we do not help them when we are able to, God will not be pleased. Like the rich man who kept his wealth for himself and did not lend to the poor, he was not granted his most important loan request—his life. He died and was not able to enjoy his riches. Helping the poor is lending to God. He will be pleased if we do so and will repay us for the loan we have given Him. Whatever we lend to God is safe. He will surely pay the loan. In fact, it will grow much in interest more than what we expected it to gain when invested in some other ways. The best investment is to lend to God by helping the poor. Job was a man whose riches doubled because he was a “father to the poor”. God will prosper us in this life and in the life after. We shall have what He has for we shall be heirs to His glorious wealth in heaven. Remember what He said, whatever you have done to the least of them, you do it to me. Will you do God a favor? Help and care for the poor.
