God blesses those people who are treated badly for doing right. They belong to the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:10 CEV)
Christ was persecuted because He proclaimed the Kingdom of Heaven which is characterized by righteousness and blessedness. He rose from the dead to conquer the power of death, which was the last enemy to contend with. We are not greater than Christ. We must be ready to face persecutions as His Disciples. There are three reasons we are persecuted. First is because we believe Christ is our Lord. He dwells in us and rules in our lives. Second, His righteousness is seen in us. The world cannot understand us because His righteousness is foolishness to them. Their minds are worldly while we are spiritual, holy and godly. Third and last, we proclaim the Kingdom of God. The heathens do not want anybody to rule them. They want to be rulers themselves. They prefer the kingdoms of this world which will not last. But we have hope for the kingdom to be realized completely when Christ returns to give us glory and the life everlasting. Christ gave us the example of obedience and perseverance. We must persevere and obey till His coming. For the meantime, we must rejoice and be glad when we suffer because of Christ, of His righteousness and in proclaiming His kingdom for we shall inherit heaven.
