I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned. (Matthew 12:36-37 ESV)
Our speech reveals what is in our heart. If we speak evil, it shows our evil heart. If we speak that which is good, then we have a good heart. A fountain cannot give out sweet and fresh water and at the same time provide saline and polluted water. Christ commands us to speak well of others. Let not our mouth speak of lies, deceits, curses nor obscene words. We must avoid foolish talks, crude jokes and silly conversations. Show that we are true Disciples of Christ who learned the manners of Christ. Our language must be the truth spoken out of love. Our words must edify and be full of graces for the listeners. That means we speak to encourage and build. Gratitude is a way of life for us and therefore must always be expressed. Thus, I urge you brethren to contemplate what we say. Do not speak in haste especially when you are filled with distaste. Murmuring, complaining and harsh words must not be part of our conversations. Remember that by the words we say, we shall be judged. Careful, careful…
