For David had done what was right in the eyes of the Lord and had not failed to keep any of the Lord’s commands all the days of his life—except in the case of Uriah the Hittite. (1 Kings 15:5 NIV)

Abijah, a descendant of David, had become king of Judah and reigned in Jerusalem. “Though his heart is not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his forefather had been. Nevertheless, for David’s sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and by making Jerusalem strong”. This was all because his forefather, David, had been faithful to the Lord throughout his life. Because of David’s obedience and faithfulness, his descendants were also blessed in spite of their offences. This shows that are Lord God is full of grace and blesses those who are faithful to Him, even extending His grace to the descendants of His faithful servants. Not only that, though David had committed a sin, the Lord is ever merciful to forgive him and overlook his offence. Let us thank the Lord for His grace and mercy are abundant and overflowing in our lives, extending even to our families. May we be faithful and obedient to Him for the rest of our lives.
