Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. (John 4:34 NKJV)
We cannot live without eating and drinking. It is necessary for life support. There are those who eat and drink to get merry and to satisfy their bodies. Jesus is teaching us to go deeper in the meaning of life. There must be a greater purpose than to satisfy our flesh. We are to satisfy our souls. What can bring us great and lasting joy is to do our Father’s work. It is our meat and drink which we must regularly take to make us strong and healthy, growing in spiritual maturity. What work does our Father do? Is it not to give eternal life to dying souls? He came to deliver us from the sting of death because of our sins. Sinners are blinded from the true knowledge of God. We are given the key to the knowledge of Him who saved us. We must proclaim Christ as our Lord God and Savior to all men. Preaching, teaching, and baptizing men in the name of Christ in the Most Holy Church is the way to eternal life. Let us have this work very close in our hearts more than any physical activity. Pull out the souls from the fire of hell. Have mercy on people who are lined up to the door of hell. Be zealous to lead them to Christ who is the way, the life, and the truth.
