Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble. (2 Peter 1:10 NKJV)

Apostle Peter is talking from experience. He stumbled in his faith several times. He cut the ear of an arresting soldier of Jesus, three times he denied Him, deserted Him during crucifixion, left the brethren and his ministry, and went back to fishing. With God’s grace, he was able to revert back, stronger in faith than before, to be able to advise and encourage us to be firm in faith. We are to work out our salvation. Not that we can save ourselves, since we have already been chosen by God, but for us to maintain the privilege of being elected as Children of God that belong to His divine family. We should do what we are supposed to do. We are to be light of the world by our righteous works and not the work of the flesh which emanate from a darkened mind. Let us be careful not to lose our election for many have stumbled and fallen. They are those who loved the pleasures of the world rather than be delighted in Christ. They left the faith and the Church. As in the parable of the sower, the seed fell on the wayside and snatched them, others fell on stony grounds and did not grow, and still others fell on thorny grounds and did not grow. Let your faith grow and ensure that you will reap the fruits of our calling, the blessings of life here now and the eternal life. Let not our election be in vain. Faith that work is faith that works.
