So we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well. (1 Thessalonians 2:8 NIV)
The best qualification for a Minister is the fer – vent love for souls. It is not enough to preach and teach the gospel, especially if spoken with a cold heart. It should be preached with love to be acceptable and powerful, enough to convert souls to repentance and belief. Jesus Christ exemplified the love for lost souls: the sinners, the sick, and those afflicted by evil spirits. The apostles showed love and compassion to the brethren by teaching everything, not hiding anything, as to how to live righteously before God. They taught the scriptures fervently, zealously, and powerfully through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit inspired them, as the tongues of fire. Fire implies heat, warmth. Preaching, inspired by the Holy Spirit, should be with the warmth of love and affection. A cold preaching cannot win souls. Lukewarm is also unacceptable; it is sickening. Preaching the gospel should be with love, giving our whole selves for the sake of the brethren. Agape is the principal characteristic of a godly Minister. Serve with love in your heart.
