Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God, for he removed the altars of the foreign gods and the high places, and broke down the sacred pillars and cut down the wooden images. (2 Chronicles 14:2-3 NKJV)
Idols are not only the wooden images or sculptures that people worship. Idols are anything that take away the rightful place of the Lord in our lives. If the Lord is no longer our priority, then that someone or something assuming His place becomes an idol in our lives. The verse encourages us to do what Asa did–remove any traces of idols in our lives, for this is what is good and right in the eyes of the Lord. Sometimes, it is not so easy to be aware that we are already making an idol out of someone or something when we put higher importance to them than the Lord. It entails conscious effort from us to be vigilant. Remember the first and great commandment: to love the Lord with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. Always ask ourselves, “Is God still my priority? Is everything I do for His glory?” If our answer is yes, then we are on the right path. Know this, “He will give you everything that you need from day to day if you live for Him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern.”
