So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?” (Nehemiah 6:3 NKJV)

When Nehemiah was leading Israel in rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, his enemies kept on sending him messages of invitation for a meeting. But he was wise to know that they were traps and his enemies were just scheming to harm him and to ultimately disrupt the on-going construction. Nehemiah did not allow himself to be distracted from his work for the Lord. He saw to it that he will finish his work. Just like Nehemiah, God had entrusted us ministries and responsibilities to do well and finish. We must also be wise to know if an opportunity, a dream, a relationship, and the like will cause our godly work to be halted and put in the sidelines. Always pray to the Lord to give us wisdom in discerning which opportunities to pursue, career to take, and relationship to grow. God is generous and gracious. If we lack wisdom, pray to God and He will give it to us. As we start the day, let us ask the Lord to guide us and help us focus in finishing the work He entrusted to us, in spite of the many distractions we might encounter today.
