There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. (Luke 1:5-6 NKJV)
Parents should live an exemplary life of holiness. What our children see, hear, and experience will mold their characters and personalities. We are told to teach our children the fear of God. In their younger days, we are to train them in the way of godliness. It is our parental, and specially our religious duty, to rear our children our to serve the Lord. There are parents who are not serious enough to know and do their duties. We should first love and care for our children. They are our heritage from the Lord. Since they came from the Lord, they are to live for His glory. Give them a good Christian name that glorify God and not just any name. The names they bear will tell who they are. Offer them to God. Let the will of God be done in the lives of your children. Teach them to pray while starting to talk. Let them praise God with their sinless lips. Teach them the law and ordinances of God while they grow up. Bring them to Church with you to show them how to worship the Lord. Let them participate in Church activities when they can, according to the gifts God has given them. Encourage them to speak for Christ and learn more to minister others in different ways. Zachariah and Elizabeth were devoted servants of the Lord. They both came from priestly tribes. John was their son. He was John the Baptist who prepared the way of the coming Messiah. Let your faith continue to run in your family and in the generations to come in honor and praise of the only true God, Jesus Christ.
