But Gideon said to them, “I will not rule over you, nor shall my son rule over you; the LORD shall rule over you.” (Judges 8:23 NKJV)
All people make mistakes; all people have flaws, even our spiritual leaders. If that is so, how could we accept and acknowledge them as our spiritual leaders? The answer: we should not look at their qualities and personalities as our leader but at the authority of God who put them there. We should not forget that our spiritual leaders are merely God’s instruments in administering us. We should also remember we cannot say that we fully submit ourselves to God without submit- ting ourselves to our spiritual leaders. The only thing that we need to do is to acknowledge and respect those who stand as leaders before us – whoever they are, wherever they came from, and what- ever status in life they have. They did not attain that position by themselves and their own will. It is God who put them there, and we should respect our Supreme Leader’s will.
