But Daniel purposed in his hear that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. (Daniel 1:8 NKJV)
Daniel was one of the young men who were brought to Babylon during the captivity of his country. Daniel was an achiever. In his young life, he was very keen in his faith during their stay in Babylon. He perfectly knew that the dainty foods and drinks given to them were unclean for they were offered to pagan idols. Along with his three friends, he decided to avoid luxurious living which most youths are after.
Remember the story of the young moth and the flame? In the story, the old moth warned the young moth not to fly too close towards the lamp, but the young moth was so attracted to the flame and to the warmth that it ignored the older moth’s advice. Round and round the flame it flew. Finally, it hovered so near the flame that it’s wings felt numb and paralyzed and got burned. The young moth fell and died.
Do not defile yourself with the lust of this world considered as sweet poison to the soul.
