He who loves purity of heart
And has grace on his lips,
The king will be his friend. (Proverbs 22:11 NKJV)
How is your heart? Is it good or bad? Whatever comes out of our mouth comes out from our heart. What we say is the reflection of our heart’s content. Unpleasant, lustful, rude, and cruel words come from an impure heart. Words that give peace, encouragement, and knowledge, and that are useful and pleasurable to the listeners are the result of having a pure heart. So, let us avoid gossiping and rumor mongering – things that would spark hatred result to impure thoughts and malice, and that are hurtful like cursing and insults. If in our hearts, we aim to please God, let us do our best to please everyone who can hear us speak. God gave us our lips and tongue so that we may speak words that glorify Him. Therefore, as Christians, let us abstain from talking inappropriately. It is wrong to use our lips in uttering bad words and use the same lips in praising God. Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?
