Do not let your heart envy sinners,
But be zealous for the fear of the Lord all the day. (Proverbs 23:17 NKJV)

Wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it. Right is right even if no one is doing it. Any evil act does not become righteous just because a lot of people are doing it. Being children of God, we are aware that we should abstain from worldly deeds and desires, but there are times that we envy the non-believers when they do things that give pleasure to the flesh. They may seem happy when they do things that they carnally desire, but what we sometimes forget is that, that kind of happiness is temporary. They are happy when they are doing it, but that happiness will be gone afterwards. For us Christians, our happiness should be in doing the will of God. God’s will is for us to live in holiness and not in sin. We may seem unhappy for depriving ourselves from many worldly deeds, but every time we avoid them, we avoid sinning, thus, making our souls happy. Do not envy sinners for their happiness is temporary. Be like Daniel who, out of fear of God, chose bitter vegetables over delicious food offerings to false gods. Be like Joseph who, out of fear of God, ran away from Potiphar’s wife to avoid a forbidden act. Just do our best to fight all temptations, stay disciplined, and stay clean before the eyes of God – for us to be worthy of the promise of everlasting life that has no sadness at all but true and lasting happiness in every single day of eternity.
