But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. (1 Thessalonians 5:8 NKJV)

Let us be watchful and ready to meet the attacks of the devil with his many temptations. He hides in the dark ready to strike, waiting for his prey like a lion ready to devour us. Courageously meet him when he attempts to enter our gates, the door of our heart and mind, and fight him decisively. We are have the advantage in this spiritual fight. First, we have the Lord of Hosts as our Leader, the Most High God. He strengthens us. He is our Champion who already conquered the enemy camp, the world. He leads to attain victory by way of the cross. We have the light in Him that we are not deceived by Satan. Second, He equipped us with His garments, the breastplate of faith and love, and the helmet of hope for our salvation. These gears protect our heart and mind where the enemy may enter. The breastplate is also called the breastplate of righteousness. We can be righteous through the Spirit of Christ dwelling and working in us. We can then do good works and be right with God if we obey Him. Faith and love go together. By faith, we can do the impossible; with love we can conquer the world. Also, our helmet is our hope of salvation. It protects our mind from Satan’s lies. He casts doubts in our minds regarding the promises of God. The helmet ensures that we hold on to the promises of God in our walk in this life. Hope makes us endure and to continue to fight until the end for the prospect of victory and glory in Christ.
