Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. (Matthew 6:2 NKJV)
Do all for the glory of God. Do not seek your own glorification. Do not fall into Satan’s trap to do things to impress the people around you. Yes, we need to be recognized and be appreciated. It means little if we are recognized by other people. What matters most is when God is impressed and our works are recognized by Him. We should continually check our motives in whatever we do. Do we help others so that we may look good to them? That they may return the favor? That they may honor us? Others commit this mistake because their motives are not sincere. We are encouraged to be the best in all we do as Christians. We can be impressive but not hypocrites or proud. In fact, we should show our good works so that others may praise God and set the examples for others to follow. We should act, speak, and deal with others as Disciples of Christ, shining as light of the world and salt of the earth. “Do not” means you sin if you fail to obey. It is foolishness to not obey because you lose your reward which Christ has for those who will serve Him faithfully. Do the right thing, the right way, at the right time. Help a brother in need. Comfort a sister in distress. Give your love generously to everyone. Love is something you have that you can give without losing. Instead, it will multiply in you. The more you give, the more it will increase, and the more you are blessed.
