“I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ Acts 20:35
Abba, dear Father. I ponder upon your words: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” I search in my heart whether I am a cheerful giver or not. Do I give religiously every first day of the week in faith and for your glory or not. You know Lord, what the condition of my heart is when I give to your ministry. I take it as my privilege and not just an obligation. May you see the truthfulness of my feelings that it does not burden me at all. It makes me happy to give back to you, my Lord, because it is you who gives me abundantly. You prosper me and it is just right to give as you prosper me. It is now clear to me, Lord, that if I must work, I work not only to receive but also to give to those who are in need. If ever that I spend to gratify only myself, I beg for your forgiveness. Let my mind be not in conformity with the worldly. They work more to earn more. They seek material wealth which is never enough. They store treasures only for themselves. You taught us to lay up treasures in heaven. It is different in the ways we store these two treasures. One wants to receive to store material wealth, on the contrary, to store up treasures in heaven one has, to be willing to give. Knowing, Lord, that the value of spiritual wealth is far, far greater than those of earthly treasures, thus, it is really more blessed to give than to receive. Lord, I pray that let me have heaven as my bank where my treasure can be kept safe, with infinite interests which I can enjoy for all eternity. Lord may I realize that even I am the poorest of the poor on earth, I still have something to give. I can give my faith, my love and life for everyone in need. Help me be like you who gave your all for our salvation. This I pray in your name, Jesus Christ our Lord, God and Saviour. Amen.
