Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. (Hebrews 12:1 NIV)
A runner prepares himself physically and mentally. He disciplines himself, endures hardships and sacrifices to win the race. He gives his all to win. During the race, he follows the rules of the competition to not be disqualified from the race. He is clothed suitably for the event. His outfit has no extra weight to carry during the run. He is focused and determined. He runs, looking and pushing forward the best he can, motivated by one thing – to reach the finish line and get the reward. We are to live our Christian lives as though runners in a spiritual race. Keep our focus on Christ, our leader in the race. He was first to reach the finish line and get the reward. He started the race for us. We should follow Him and run the race as He did. Let us remove everything that will hinder and slow us down. Let us do away with things that will distract us from winning. Let us endure to the end to win the prize, the eternal life. Do not back-down when you are tired and lonely, tried and tested. When you fall, do not surrender. Rise up and continue to run with a renewed spirit. Brethren, we are in Christ’s team. We are the champions, the overcomers, the conquerors, the victors. Christ is watching over us. He and the angels are cheering for you and me in our run for spiritual glory. Let us not let God down. Others are watching, too. Evil spirits want us to fail, putting obstacles along our way. Do not give them even a chance to succeed. The world is also watching us. Let us show them how to live, win, and be glorious in Christ, our Lord. May I now ask, are you winning your race? Yes, you can through faith in Christ.
