Gold Dust No. 239

One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty and one whose temper is controlled than one who captures a city. (Proverbs 16:32 NRSV)

Control your emotions. Rule over your anger. Before you lose your temper, quench it. Alexander the Great, whose famous line, “Vini, vidi, vici,” which means I saw, I came, I conquer, was one of the great conquerors in the history of mankind. He was able to direct, control and make use of his army to expand his sovereignty. However, he was not able to control his anger. In one instance, he blew his top and in the heat of his anger, killed one of his best and old time friends, Cleitus. You are better than anyone who conquers the city if you conquer yourself first. Conquerors do harm, kill and destroy those whom they conquer. They have power over external enemies but no power over themselves. Conquering oneself does not do harm to anyone. Instead they do well to yourself first and then to others as well. The greatest enemy is your flesh. The greatest battle is your spirit versus your flesh. If you can control what is within, then you can rule over what is without. You are more than a conqueror, better than Alexander if you rule over your emotions.
