You shall surely give to him, and your heart should not be grieved when you give to him, because for this thing the Lord your God will bless you in all your works and in all to which you put your hand. (Deuteronomy 15:10 NKJV)
It is quite certain that we have all withheld help to someone because we doubted whether he/she deserves our help. Maybe we thought that the person is a swindler, lazy, and/or will use the money to support bad habits. Giving may mean we tolerate them in their ways. Ask God to help us discern the true intentions of those who ask for help, for us to act excellently in these situations. Likewise, we sometimes give help to get help in return, and be blessed by the one whom we helped or by God. In a way, our motive becomes selfish. If we are selfish, we give then grieve. A sincere heart gives willingly and gladly. God loves the poor. Those who have should help the have-nots in the Church, especially those who labor for our spiritual perfection. Equality is achieved by giving and sharing what we have to those who do not have. God sees kind hearts and helping hands. The windows of heaven will open to pour blessing to those with open hands. Tight fists will not be able to receive God’s blessings.
