For this God is our God for ever and ever: He will be our guide even unto death. (Psalms 48:14 ASV)
God promises us a wonderful future in this life and the life to come. This is the reason why we should be watchful of our present life. Most people live to gain pleasure in the present even if they sacrifice the pleasure stored for them in the future. We should not conform to this thinking of the worldly, but focus our minds to the future. The prodigal son went the same way: having all the privileges but wasting his life and resources to gain short-lived pleasures of life. The consequence was detrimental. He lost all that he had and lived to suffer in poverty, physically and spiritually. Esau lived the same way. He sold his birthright to Jacob, his brother, only to satisfy his hunger. So Jacob earned God’s favor instead of Him. We should learn from the past. Protect our future by not yielding to our lusts and emotions today. Live in the spirit and not in the flesh.
