For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. (Romans 8:13 ESV)
When God created us and gave us the breath of life, we became living souls. This is a revealed truth: we are spirits, we are not flesh. Thus, the spirit soul should put the flesh under its subjection rather than the flesh over the soul. Do not be deceived to live according to the flesh. It will lead us to sin which is against the desire of our spirit. We will then be caught in a merry go round of sin. Meaning, we do what the flesh wants and do not do what the spirit wants. We know it will lead us to death but still we have no power against the flesh. But if we live by the spirit we suppress the desires of flesh and we do not sin.
