Now I say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. (Matthew 16:18 NLT)
Peter knew who Jesus was. He was the promised Messiah who will come to deliver Israel from the hands of oppressors. Israel had been suffering from abuse by their civilian and religious leaders. Peter received this revelation about the kingdom that will be set up by Jesus Christ. It is not like any kingdom on earth. It is a spiritual kingdom, the church. The Church as the Kingdom of Christ will not perish. It will be established upon the strongest foundation which is Christ. Christ is the cornerstone or the firm foundation of the faith of all true Children of the Kingdom. As such, it can and will overcome all sorts of obstacles, powers, and even evil forces that intend to destroy it. The Church will conquer and prevail. The Most Holy Church will be exalted when all the kingdoms on earth bow down to worship the only true God, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, the King of kings and Lord of Lords.
