Now the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the former ways of his father David; he did not seek the Baals.

2Chronicles 17:3 NKJV
We all have our model who we try to copy. Daughters copy their loving mothers, sons their best fathers, we look for ideal husband or wife etc. But who do we copy or imitate when it comes to our faith? We have a lot of models called the heroes of faith. In this verse, it is King David who was King Jehoshaphat’s model. David was the king of Israel that God sought after His own heart. Jehoshaphat walked in the way His father David. He decided to seek the Lord God rather than the false god Baal. He knew that David served and worshipped only the true God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. That God is Almighty and is the sovereign God of the whole universe, who establishes the Kingdoms and installs kings.
We should also do the same. We have to choose who we will serve. We have to choose wisely because our decision on this matter has an eternal implication on our souls. If we choose Baal, the god of the world, we, will only be disappointed because it cannot give lasting pleasure and success. It will just lead us away from the true God who gives true and lasting pleasure and prosperity. Why choose the lower pleasures and worthless things of the world compared to the glorious richest and honor of heaven? Decide well brethren. Choose to serve the Most High God. Serve Him well and be well.
